NICHOLSON’s parents were living on the coast of Miyagi Prefecture when their town was devastated by the tsunami triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. After their house was assessed as damaged beyond repair, the author’s family began to build a new one, but they soon came up against building restrictions, budgetary restraints, and a shortage of carpenters. Then NICHOLSON’s mother was found to have cancer. This graphic essay is the true story of how the family rebuilt their house and their life.
