MAKIHARA Eri / DAKEI
A completely silent documentary portraying how 15 deaf performers create “musical” spaces visibly expressed through their hands, faces, and entire bodies. Through its recording of primitive, improvisational, nonlinguistic movements that do not rely on the functionality of sign language, the work envisions the possibilities for a new kind of “music” rooted in the identities of deaf people.
