Polar Bear Bears Boredom
YAMAMURA Koji
Inspired by the Choju-jinbutsu-giga (Caricatures of Animals and Humans), a series of anthropomorphic animal picture scrolls dating from the 12th or 13th centuries, this film features a very bored polar bear who ventures out into the open sea and meets sea animals such as otters and dugongs. This single 7-minute cut animation presents an unfolding picture scroll with soft brush strokes, along with Japanese and English wordplay rhyming respectively.
