Mayumi, whose mother committed suicide, moved between orphanages and foster homes. After graduating from high school, she was adopted by Kimie, a former leprosy patient in her 60s who was forbidden by law to have a child. This work weaves multiple social themes—discrimination and prejudice against disease, adoption, and child-rearing amid the pandemic—into a story by harnessing the power of images and people’s voices about their experiences.
